As a self-taught artist, I enjoy using bold acrylic colors to create works that express a range of personal and social experiences including humor, joy, sexuality, fear, and beauty. My naïve approach to art frees me to play with perspectives, thematic oddities, and provocative metaphors.
Recurring curiosities in my paintings include Sunglasses and Orange skin. As a gay man in the South, I lived a deeply closeted life and wore sunglasses to protect my identity whenever I attended a gay related venue. And the orange skin is my whimsical take on what we would look like if the skin color of all races were combined into one.
Art is the great liberator from our everyday selves, and the more we enjoy the arts, the more we are able to see and experience people and communities beyond the common scripts.
